- Book is undated but author's note in front is dated October 18, 1852
- According to the Contents, the book contains four stories:
- "The History of Henry Esmond" (in three books)
- "Catherine: A Story"
- "Denis Duval"
- "Lovel the Widower" - The Henry Esmond story is 391 pages in length. The other three stories combined are 366 pages so the length of the book is about 757 pages
- Condition Issues: (see photos for each issue)
- Cover is completely loose from the binding on the front and through the spine; it is still attached on the back side
- Binding itself is intact
- First blank page is loose and has a name and date written on it in pencil. The date looks like "Dec. 25, 1896"
- Book is in fragile condition and pages are somewhat darkened with age
- The right side of page 11/12 is completely separated but present
- The right side of page 13/14 is missing
- Considerable foxing on pages 2 and 3 of "Catherine: A Story"
- Markings on outside of spine are legible
- Some fraying to top and bottom of outer spine and the usual corner wear
- Gold gilt on upper page edges, none on the long or bottom sides
- Except for the missing page section mentioned above, the book is completely readable - Dimensions: 7-3/8" x 5" x 1-1/2"
- I am not an expert on old books but the above comments are the best of my knowledge and observations about the condition. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
