The Earthmen: Scott Stevens (vocals), Aaron Goldberg (guitar), Nick Batterham (guitar, organ), Eric Prentice (bass), Glenn Peters (drums).Additional personnel: Maud, Caroline (vocals), Loz (organ), Snag (tambourine).Engineers: Laurence Maddy (tracks 1, 3-5, 8, 10); Chris Thompson (tracks 2, 6, 7, 9).On Teen Sensations, the Earthmen get caught in a sort of early-'90s trap; portions of the album are reduced, through mainstream production and forced songwriting, to fall into all the worst clich‚s of post-Nirvana alt rock. The album's high points, however, turn out charmingly amateurish and very teenaged pop with a distinctively Australian jangle and consistently pleasant melodies. One can imagine that if the band hadn't felt pressure -- either from their own ambitions or that of their collaborators -- to fit into a radio-friendly mold, Teen Sensations could have been a very decent release. ~ Nitsuh Abebe
