Original 18 inch x 12 1/2 inch Engraving titled THE STATE OF THE LONDON STREETS - LUDGATE HILL ON A SLIPPERY DAY.
Drawn by John Charlton (1849 - 1917). Draughtsman, illustrator, painter of animal and battle subjects, who was born in Bamburgh, Northumberland and studied at the Newcastle School of Art and in London at South Kensington. In 1876 he began work for the Graphic providing illustrations for their wood engravers from 1976-95.

The Graphic was a British weekly illustrated newspaper, first published on 4 December 1869 by William Luson Thomas's company Illustrated Newspapers Limited. It continued to be published weekly under this title until 23 April 1932 and then changed title to The National Graphic between 28 April and 14 July 1932; it then ceased publication, after 3,266 issues.
