Seller's Description

Original 1831 9 1/8 inch x 6 5/8 inch etching and engraving titled SIR NICHOLAS BACON
English politician who held the position of Lord Keeper of the Great Seal. three-quarter length to right, seated, in cap and furred gown, holding paper on right hand. Illustration to Lodge's 'Portraits' (8vo edition, London 1821-34.

Engraved by William Henry Mote (1803 - 1871). He was an English stipple and line engraver, primarily known for his portraits. He produced etchings for reference books, as well as original etchings. Mote became a member of the Royal Academy in his twenties and his portraits hang in the National Portrait Gallery, London.
After Federico Zuccaro (1539 - 1609). A native of Sant’Angelo in Vado near Urbino, Federico Zuccaro became the leading painter in late sixteenth-century Rome. He worked alongside his elder brother Taddeo, who supervised his training and output like a master. The brothers collaborated on numerous commissions both in and around Rome, and Taddeo’s influence on Federico’s early work is evident in the drawings that Federico produced during these initial years. Despite his brother’s death in 1566, Federico became enormously successful in his own right. He travelled widely and his fame spread throughout Europe. Federico’s accomplishment was marked in 1593 with the establishment of his own art academy in Rome, and again in 1607 with the publication of his treatise on beauty and design.
