Seller's Description

Rail (Enthusiast) March 1994. Issue No.221

Main features:

- A Glorious End for 50033:  Class 50 No.50033 Glorious has been repainted into large logo livery, prior to it being ensconced as part of the National Collection at the National Railway Museum in York. The repainting of No.50033 in large-logo livery - rather than the originally-intended Network SouthEast colour scheme - recreates the 1980s appearance for the English Electric locomotive, which was pictured heading the 1V96 1118 York-London Paddington service through Aynho Junction on November 11, 1989.

- News:  National Power's Class 59/2 arrives in Britain; BR's Charter Train Unit offered for sale; Railtrack announces track access charges for the passenger train companies; BR's new ticketing system explained; 56004 to retain blue livery, Thameslink looks to Stewarts Lane depot for train maintenance; Waterloo and City Line for London Underground; 'The Caledonian' - named train resurrected; NRM completes restoration on Class08 No.13079 (D3079,08064), and the challenge of upgrading the West Coast Main Line.

- The Human Revolution:  Dick Hardy reflects on the transition from steam to diesel traction on the former Eastern Region of British Railways and explains how something as simple as training was foreign to steam men! Indeed, he further relates how the advent of electrification had disastrous results for some steam men.

- Railway Jigsaw:  Gavin Morrison continues his photographic exploits around the country. This time he looks at the railway line between King's Lynn and Cambridge, where electrification and Multi-Aspect Signalling has altered the character of the line, and eliminated loco-hauled passenger trains.
