Seller's Description

Rail (Enthusiast) November 1995. Issue No.266

- Front Cover:  The leading coaches of this charter train are semi-preserved by Nick Dodson of Railfilms, but for BR's passenger operators there is little prospect of any new rolling stock for at least two years. On September 29, Class 37/4 No.37408 Ben Cruachan passes through Inverhaggie with a Statesman charter from Preston to Fort William.

- Comment:  Nigel Harris comments on Britain's only national-owned trains - the Eurostars.

- News:  The three leasing companies are sold for £1.8bn, a GWT HST collides with a Turbo outside Paddington, some SuperSaver fares are axed, rail services in the south east are deteriorating, a 'Pacer' fails to get round a bend and new freight grants for North West and East Anglian operators.

- Wolmar:  The Independent's transport correspondent Christian Wolmar muses over the sale of the rolling stock companies.

- Around the RegionsRAIL's review of railway news from all corners of Britain, compiled by Howard Johnston.

- Preservation:  West Somerset is to axe its 1996 gala and locomotives queue up for the Barrow Hill project. More top stories from Howard Johnston.

- Christmas Gift IdeasRAIL tells you what's new for Christmas whatever you're looking for from books, videoas and calendars to ties and Christmas cards.

- Open Access:  Why not use Regional Eurostars for domestic traffic? and a suggestion for the shortest distance between two BR stations - just some of the topics on our letters pages.

- RAILFile Insider:  The commendable decision to provide the new owner of Freightliner with a five-year subsidy is analysed by 'Insider'.

- Going Dutch on London Underground:  A joint venture between Dutch firm Railbouw and Grant Lyon Eagre is seeing many miles of LUL's track replaced. For the first time, Roger Butcher provides the background.

- LT's 25-year Vision:  A major report has been published by LT looking at rail and road plans for the next quarter of a century. RAILFile assesses the main points.

- Super ContaineringRAILFile reports on Suffolk County Council's major initiative to push for upgrading of the crosscountry route from Felixstowe and Harwich to Holyhead/Liverpool for container traffic.

- The D&E Years:  Another selection of vintage 1960s gems from Bill Potter, this time on shed or Works.

- Lincolnshire's Old Peculiar:  Decimated by Dr.Beeching, Lincolnshire's railway system is a shadow of its former self. Howard Johnston recalls past and present.

- Main Line Points:  Collect your 'Points' and save pounds on models, tours and accommodation.

- Locomotive Review:  From Class 08 to 92, all the latest news with the best traction pictures. Plus namings, Works reports and news from Irish railways.

- Stock Changes:  The latest re-allocations, renumberings and withdrawal details of BR's locomotive and coaching stock fleet, along with details of wagons for sale.

- Rolling Stock News:  More Class 508 EMUs go into store and North London Railways still has DMU problems. David Russell has the rolling stock news.

- Freight and Engineering:  Bob Wallace has all the latest wagon news, including details of the new 'MacCrabs', while on-track machine and crane disposals are updated by expert Roger Butcher.

- Classified:  You will be surprised what you can find here - a multitude of products - all at keen prices!

- Stop and Examine:  What better way to end your RAIL by enjoying some of the more unusual and bizarre things, such as 'Deltics' on the West Highland Line, Japanese bullet trains on the East Coast and English timetables - in Welsh!
