The books measure approx, 12.5cm by 19cm and contains 320 and 363 marble edged pages.
Each volume has an illustrated frontis and volume two has a further four additional full page plates set within the text.

Both volumes bear a "Fanshaws" family book plate on the leading pastedowns and the name Constance Demain Saunders (dated 1887) on a blank endpaper.*

The text blocks of both volumes are in a good general condition and tightly bound.
There is some age toning and occasional foxing (mostly around the endpapers and plates), although volume two has a section of more profound foxing between pages 96-129.

The original full calf leather bindings are chipped and edge worn.
Both volume's top boards are detached.
There is loss to the spine fascia (lower part of spine fascia has been placed at the rear of the book).
Volume two's spine fascia is absent.
Both rear joints are rubbed but holding.

*Fanshaws in Hertford is a large house built by Constances father, Henry Wilson Demain Saunders, around 1885. The house is now the property of the Institute of the motor industry.
