Original French 11 inch x 15 1/4 inch page with printed watercolour titled LA VALLEE DE LA TOURBE
Road to Vouziers and the village of Ville-sur-Tourbe.
Vouziers is the burial place of the pioneer First World War fighter pilot Roland Garros, after whom the Stade Roland Garros in Paris (the location of the French Open tennis tournament) is named.
Watercolour by François Flameng (1856 - 1923). A notable French painter during the last quarter of the 19th century and the first quarter of the 20th. Flameng later received renown for his painting of World War I. He was named honorary president of the Society of Military Painters and an accredited documenter for the War Ministry. His work was displayed in the Hôtel des Invalides in Paris, as well as being reproduced in news magazines.
On the reverse is another watercolour by François Flameng titled COMBAT DU 26 SEPTEMBRE 1915 A LA MAIN DE MASSIGES (BATTLE OF SEPTEMBER 26, 1915, AT THE HAND OF MASSIGES)
