Seller's Description
Original 1682 10 3/8 inch x 5 5/8 inch Etching titled PAULUS CALIARY VERONENSIS IN & PINX
Jupiter seated at left, resting his head in his hand, accompanied by Juno at right, an oval composition.
Print made by Valentin Lefebre (1637 - 1677). Lefebre was a painter and etcher, born in Brussels. He settled in Venice where he produced the 'Opera Selectiora' of etchings after Titian and Veronese. The series was left unfinished at his early death, and finally published in 1682 by Jacobus van Campen.
After Paolo Veronese (1528 - 1588). Paolo was born in Verona – hence his nickname 'Veronese'. His father was a stonecutter and his mother was the illegitimate daughter of a nobleman called Caliari. Veronese moved to Venice in the early 1550s and stayed there for the rest of his life, becoming one of the leading painters of the 16th century.
Published by Jacobus van Campen
