Original 1866 7 5/8 inch x 9 7/8 inch engraving titled THE PARTING
A scene at night, a woman embracing a young man in highland dress as he is about to board a rowing boat, in which another figure sits hunched over wrapped in a cloak, a sailor standing with oar at left ready to push off, the ship beyond at right, moonlight illiminating the sea.
Engraved by Frederick Bacon (1803 - 1887). Line, mezzotint engraver and watercolourist; born in London, pupil of Edward Finden.
After Paul Falconer Poole (1807 - 1879). An English subject and genre painter born in Bristol.
Lettered below image with title: "From the picture in the possession of Charles Hargitt, Esq. Liverpool”.
Published in the Art Journal by J.S. Virtue & Co. Ltd., London.

The engraving, on fairly thick paper, is in very good condition with a nick in the left edge of the white border. Reverse side blank.
