For NuTone intercom installation, this type of cable is used for speakers that do not have controls. That said, I have used some of this cable for other purposes such as a standard doorbell and adding an additional garage door opener button on a system that only needs contact closure to operate.

When this listing was created, I had an open IW-2-500 (500') box of this cable which I estimate had somewhere between 180 and 230 feet left in it (based on weight of it and a short piece).
