Original 1832 8 5/8 inch x 6 inch Etching and Engraving titled MISS CHAWORTH
Portrait of Mary Anne Musters when Mary Chaworth, aged 17; bust length, looking downward to left; hair cut short.
Engraved by William Finden (1787 - 1852). Line engraver, worked in London. Older brother of Edward, and worked together as engravers and publishers.
From the portrait by Frank Stone (1800–1859). Painter of historical genre and portraits; born in Manchester and began to study art at the age of 24, when 31 moved to London; exhibited mostly watercolours at first at the Royal Watercolour Society and after having been made a member resigned in 1847; Associate Royal Academician in 1851; Both he and his son Marcus Stone, also a painter, were friends of Charles Dickens .
Published in 1832, by J. Murray
Inscription: “From an original at the age of 17 / “She was his life / The ocean to the river of his thoughts”.”
The engraving is in good condition with light foxing and slight age-related toning. Reverse side blank.
