Seller's Description
Original British 11 inch x 17 inch Double-Sided Trade Advertisement from Kinematograph Weekly for the 1953 Brian Desmond Hurst Wartime Drama THE MALTA STORY, based on the book “Briefed To Attack” by Sir Hugh P. Lloyd and starring Alec Guinness, Jack Hawkins, Anthony Steel, Muriel Pavlow and Renee Asherson.
The film uses real and unique footage of the locations at which the battles were fought and includes a love story between a RAF reconnaissance pilot and a Maltese woman, as well as the anticipated execution of her brother, caught as an Italian spy. The pilot is loosely based on Adrian Warburton; the Maltese woman's brother is based on Carmelo Borg Pisani, who was executed in 1942.
On the reverse is the 11 inch x 8 1/2 inch Trade Advertisement for the 1953 Peter Brook Musical Drama THE BEGGAR’S OPERA, based on the libretto by John Gay and starring Laurence Olivier, Hugh Griffith, George Rose, Stuart Burge, Dorothy Tutin, Mary Clare, Athene Seyler, Stanley Holloway, Daphne Anderson, Eric Pohlmann, Yvonne Furneaux, Kenneth Williams, Sandra Dorne and Laurence Naismith.
When the composer of an opera about a swashbuckling, wenching highwayman meets his hero's real-life counterpart, he's disappointed with his lack of dash.
The Advertisement is in very good condition with a vertical centre fold and 2 staple holes along it.
