Hydrogrossular Garnet Faceted Oval: Soft Fern Green; Collector Type; 3.18 cts

Not an expensive transparent piece, but this affordable gem nevertheless has some highly translucent areas with inclusions that make (to me) an attractive little scene with a nice glow in sunlight. Although I think it looks better in hand than my photos show, the inclusions probably make this one more suited to fill a slot in your garnet collection than for a gem. I personally think, however, that it would work very well in a custom jewel design. Garnet is the traditional birthstone for the month of January, and the uncommon green varieties make a nice alternative to the usual red and red-brown garnets.
