Seller's Description

Homespun and Blue: A Study of American Crewel Embroidery by Martha Genung Stearns. Published by Bonanza Books, New York, NY, 1963. 1st Edition 2nd Printing. No DJ. Size 4to (up to 12'' tall). Condition: Good. Discarded Library Book. Edge wear, tape marks from missing DJ. Front loose endpaper cut out, presentation bookplate pasted inside front. Content vg. 96 Pgs. LCCN 63-19875. This book studies the individual freehand designs, drawn in most cases by the workers directly upon the fabric of woolens and linens probably from their own farms, and the threads spun and dyed by their own hands. These pieces are a most revealing expression of the worker's own thought, a very personal product of the women who had no small part in building the early homes of America. Illustrated with black and white photographs of a sampling of these pieces. Description text copyright 2008 www.BooksForComfort.net. Item ID 19056.
