Seller's Description

news2 This is a rare near 30 years ago origin postcard of a 1963 work of photographic art by Switzerlands Hans Baumgartner of a view of the Suez Kanal and an Indian woman sleeping on a boat by the window of the side of the ship on a very calm sea from 70 years ago which this was sourced by a collector of some of the most famous award winning photo postcards (see my other items) which this card whilst published in Holland I believe from a Baulmes exhibition in Switzerland and the souvenir for attendees unused and mint
Hans Baumgartner was born in 1911 in the canton of Thurgau Altnau on Lake Constance, Switzerland. Baumgartner's first photographs were taken in 1929. Beginning of the 1930s he was discovered by the journalist Arnold Kübler. A first photo report was published 1935. Thereafter Baumgartner published in magazines such as Camera , you , the Swiss mirror , Switzerland and hairdryer. His photo books (from 1941) are primarily concerned with themes from his home canton of Thurgau. In 1937 he made the acquaintance of the painter Adolf Dietrich, whom he repeatedly portrayed in the series. Baumgartner also photographed on his trips to Paris and Italy, the Balkans, the South of France, North Africa and the Sahara, Spain and Portugal, Sweden and Finland, the USA, Hungary, Belgium and Germany. On his trip around the world by ship he arrived in 1963 to Asia (Bombay, Colombo, Saigon, Hong Kong, Yokohama) and to the Americas (Mexico, USA). Hans Baumgartner died in 1996 in Frauenfeld.
