  • Comments: The Museum of Aviation and Cosmonautics is one of several space related museums in Moscow. Although smaller than some, this one had a really great shop when I visited as it had a large collection of aviation and space model kits. The museum is sometimes referred to as the “Central House of Aviation and Cosmonautics” and was founded in 1924. On the front cover you can see the exterior of the building in blue paint. More recent web-based images suggest it has had a paint job since and is a different colour. Although the museum covers both aviation and space, the majority of this booklet deals with aviation e.g. WWII aircraft, one of the helicopters putting a cover over a chimney at Chernobyl. The last 4 pages inside the back cover have images of Tsiolkovsky, Korolev, Yuri Gagarin, the Buran space shuttle and the Mir space station. The photographic quality varies somewhat as does a lot of Soviet literature of this era.
