Seller's Description
Book Title: Elements of Radio
- Author: William Marcus
- Publisher: Prentice-Hall, INC
- Copyright: 1953
- Edition: 3rd, 6th printing (1958)
- Binding: Hardback (Trade Cloth), 771 pages
- Condition: Used, Poor. It's usable with no hand written marks on its pages. Though, it looks like it has been kicked around quite a bit and has water stains on about the first 130 pages. When closed, there are visible marks on its cover and all edges of its pages.
Notes:
- I obtained this book from my electronics teacher on June 8, 1969 when it was discarded by San Marcos High School, Santa Barbara, CA. Now, 40+ years later with many years of on the job Electrical Engineering experience, I still find parts of this book to contain valuable information for beginners and hobiests. Subsequently, I have listed it for sale at the lowest price eBid allows.
- Many physical properties of electronics are described in it. Those never change regardless of technical advances. It should be a good reference book for anyone using high power vacumn tubes (such as a Ham Radio hobiest) as many of its pages cover vacumn tubes. And, it covers both transmission and reception as well as general usage information applicable to all types and sizes of vacumn tubes.
The more general information in some of its chapters is just as valid today as it was when this book was written. For instance:
- Chapter 30: Magetism, Motors and Measuring Instruments
- Chapter 31: Alternating Current- Theory and Measurement
- Chapter 32: Inductance, Inductive Reactance, and Impedance
- Chapter 33: Capacitance and Capacitive Reactance
- Chapter 34: Resonant Circuits and Tuning Principles
- Chapter 35: The Electromagnetic Wave
- Chapter 36: Radio Antennas
In other words, this book describes many different physical properties which never change despite how modern electronics may use those properties (ie, smaller, more compact now but still basically the same).
As of 3/27/2015, this book (likely better condition) was listed at $46.00 on Amazon. Though, I believe that's high for this type of book. My asking price is just a starting point for negotiations. Feel free to make an offer.
Shipping Notes:
- Dispatch time is longer than I normall have because I prefer not to make special trip to Post Office for a zero profit item; though it is quite likely to ship much sooner than indicated. I do guarantee to ship this item within a week.
- The handling fee I have on this item is to cover sales fees and shipping materials.
- I added Priority Mail as an alternate shipping option in case buyer wants this book sooner than bookrate will ship it.
