EISENHOWER - Fleetwood Cover - noting First Days of stamp and of dollar coin.

The addressed cover is stamped with the 6 cent Dwight D. Eisenhower postage stamp (Scott #1383) and the 10 cent Liberty and Safety stamp (Scott #1544). The Eisenhower stamp was canceled in Abilene, Kansas, on October 14, 1969, t
he First Day of Issue for the stamp.

The cover and the 10 cent stamp were subsequently postmarked in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 13, 1975.

According to a Press Release from the Bureau of the Mint dated OCTOBER 1, 1975, and titled, "MINT ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF THE BICENTENNIAL DOLLAR", "The Bicentennial dollar, picturing the Liberty Bell and moon on the reverse and the double date 1776-1976 beneath the portrait of President Eisenhower on the obverse, goes into circulation beginning October 13, 1975, Mrs. Mary Brooks, Director of the Mint, announced today." The Fleetwood cachet on the cover shows Eisenhower's home in Abilene, Kansas, and a portrait of Eisenhower. Above the picture of the house are the words "Eisenhower home / Abilene / Kansas" with the general's five stars to the left and to the right of "Abilene, Kansas". The cachet also has the words, "Honoring Dwight David Eisenhower, 34th President of the United States; General of the Armies".
