Seller's Description
In 1853 the Junior Order United American Mechanics was founded in the one-room Concord Schoolhouse in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, PA. The Junior Order United Americans are known by various names, such as Jr.O.U.A.M. , JOUAM , Junior OUAM , JrO UAM , and some times just the Junior Order. Their credo is that "we are Brothers and Sisters who believe in the practice of Virtue, Liberty, and Patriotism. To maintain and promote the interests of Americans, and shield them from the depressing effects of unrestricted immigration; to assist them in obtaining employment and to encourage them in business. To provide for the creation of a fund for the payment of benefits in case of sickness, disability or death of it's members, to members, their legal dependents or representatives, and to issue certificates of membership of the same. To uphold the American Public School System, to prevent interference therewith, and to encourage the reading of the Holy Bible in the schools thereof.
This diminutive gold and enamel pin dates to the 1920's. It is a "wheel" type pinback. No markings or engravings.
