Batman #498 – Aug. 1993 – NM-! “Knightfall: Part 15” by Doug Moench, Jim Aparo, Rick Burchett & Adrienne Roy has Bruce Wayne has come out of his coma after getting crippled by Bane, and he realizes that, at least a present, Bane runs his city! In the Batcave, Tim is having a rough time with this, but Alfred tries to keep him going, and once he’s composed Tim suggests bringing Dr. Chandra Kinsolving in to do physical and psychological therapy. They put together a story of Bruce wrecking a Porsche, and the two smash up one of Bruce’s Porsches before shoving it off a cliff, before bringing in Dr. Kinsolving. Tim asks if he should contact Nightwing. Bruce responds no – he’s his own man now. For the time being, the Batman mantle will pass to Jean-Paul, but with a warning not to challenge Bane! And Bane recruits Catwoman…!
Detective Comics # 666 – Sept. 1993 – NM-! "The Devil You Know!" sees Jean-Paul Valley determined to find Bane and bring him down, a need to prove himself as the new Batman! He visits Commissioner Gordon at Gotham City Police Headquarters, hoping to find out if Bane's Henchman have given him up…but the hoods seem unlikely to talk. Batman asks where the underlings are being held, but when Gordon finishes telling him, he realizes that, Batman is still in the room. He begins to suspect that this is a different Batman than he is used to dealing with…! Bane breaks his men out of prison as Batman watches and waits! Batman bursts through the window & takes out the goons. Bane is annoyed that he must face what he believes is a pretender. Jean-Paul claims that he is the only Batman now. Jean-Paul's aggressiveness and apparent willingness to kill amuses Bane, who suggests this pretender could bring ruin to the Batman's name! Bane soon has him at his mercy & prepares to drop Jean-Paul from a great height to his death below!! By Chuck Dixon, Graham Nolan & Scott Hanna!
