Astrophyllite Square 17 mm Cabochon: Bright Metallic Flashes; 15 cts; Russia

A pretty cabochon of astrophyllite crystals in matrix. The astrophyllite crystals give off bright golden and reddish metallic flashes against the bronzy and white matrix as the piece is moved under the light. This material comes from Siberia's Kola Peninsula in the far north of Russia (inside the Arctic Circle isn't the easiest location for mining). As with all this mixed-hardness material, there is a texture to the polished surface caused by undercutting. An eye-catching and unusual gem ready for your custom jewel design or collection case.
