Seller's Description
Original 1914 12 1/8 inch x 9 1/2 inch Etching titled AN OLD ENGLISH MILL
An old stone mill with a young girl filling a jug of water from the stream below.
Signed with monogramme in the plate.
Etched by Myles Birket Foster (1825 - 1899). One of England’s greatest nineteenth century artists of rustic and pastoral scenes. He was trained as a wood engraver and designed many book illustrations after completing his apprenticeship in 1846. He later devoted himself primarily to watercolour painting of rustic subjects in a sentimental style that made him a favourite artist for manufacturers of greetings cards.
From “Modern Etching and Engraving: With Examples by Leading Artists” by Basil Hansard published as part works by Virtue & Co., 7 City Garden Row, City Road, London circa 1914
Image size 9 7/8 inch x 7 inch
The etching, on thick wove paper, is in very good condition. Reverse side blank.
