Seller's Description
Original 10 3/4 inch x 8 1/8 inch Single-Sided Wood Engraved Cartoon page titled A JUBILEE GREETING! from Punch, November 14, 1891.
Prince Albert Edward was born at Buckingham Palace on 9 November 1841, the eldest son and second child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Named after his father, he was known to his family and close friends as Bertie. He was created the Prince of Wales on 8 December 1841 and baptised on 25 January 1842 in St George's Chapel, Windsor. He was created the a Knight of the Garter in 1858, a Knight of Thistle in 1867 and in 1868 a Knight of St Patrick.
The cartoon was wood engraved by Joseph Swain (1820 -1909) from an illustration by Sir John Tenniel (1820 - 1914), both were regulars on Punch magazine.
Punch, or The London Charivari, was a British weekly magazine of humour and satire established in 1841 by Henry Mayhew and wood-engraver Ebenezer Landells. Historically, it was most influential in the 1840s and 1850s, when it helped to coin the term "cartoon" in its modern sense as a humorous illustration.
The page is in very good condition. Reverse side blank.
