Original 1885 8 7/8 inch x 6 3/8 inch engraving titled LADY HAMILTON “THE SPINSTRESS”.
Emma Hart, Lady Hamilton as a spinstress, seated spinning wool at a wheel, in profile to right, head turned towards the viewer..
From the Engraving by Thomas Cheesman (1760 - 1834/5). Draughtsman, painter and stipple engraver. A pupil of Bartolozzi from the mid 1770s. In partnership as a printseller at Great Tichfield Street until 1790 with Bovi and Benedetti.
Painted by George Romney (1734 - 1802). An English portrait painter. He was the most fashionable artist of his day, painting many leading society figures – including his artistic muse, Emma Hamilton, mistress of Lord Nelson.
