Ganz and Billy Bear are played to vicious, cold-blooded perfection by James Remar and Sonny Landham, respectively.
The reason Hammond is willing to help Det. Cates is because, as Reggie says, "I got a lot to protect." - He also wants a woman real bad. Director Walter Hill (The Warriors) manages to pinpoint the razor-fine edge of comedy/drama with the team of Nolte and Murphy pulling off every laugh and every tear magnificantly in a memorable display of acting range and talent. After seeing this fast paced movie for just the first time, it should come as no surprise to anyone that 48 HRS. is one of the top moneymakers of the year.
