1956 U.S. Army Locomotive #581

You folks born after 1960 won't experience the thrill of seeing these iron monsters roar down the tracks or hear their unique sound across the countryside at night. But trust me, they were sights and sounds to behold!

Here is a Bob Fremming Etch-Tone postcard that has never been mailed and shows no writing. Clean all around, with no tears or creasing, and only a hint of corner wear. The back is imprinted with this information:

"Built for the U.S. War Department by the American Locomotive Company, February 1944. Class 2-8-2 S119. Track gauge 39 3/8". Driving wheel diameter 48". Wheelbase, engine and tender 54' 3".
