Seller's Description
Reading as follows: "The recumbent statue of General Robert E. Lee is one of the most impressive and sublime of all the world's memorial marbles. It is the marvelous conception of a Virginia Sculptor, Edward Virginius Valentine, and was the result of many months of painstaking care by an inspired chisel in molding the figure from life. This statue now rests over the mausoleum of General Lee in the chapel on the grounds of Washington and Lee University, at Lexington, VA. On account of its historical interest and artistic beauty it attracts thousands of visitors every year."
