1767 "RIDER'S BRITISH MERLIN" CARDINUS RIDER SMALL LEATHER ANTIQUE BOOK (P3)
Full title: Rider's British Merlin: For the Year of Our Lord God 1767. Being the third after bissextile, or leap year. Adorned with many delightful and useful verities fitting all capacities in the islands of Great Britain's monarchy. With notes of husbandry, fairs, marts, high roads, and tables for many necessary uses.
Great antique small leather almaniac hardback book from 1767 compiled by Cardanus Rider. Cardanus Rider is now believed to have been the pseudonym of physician and astronomer Richard Saunders (1613-1675). He was a member of the circle of William Lilly, whose own Merlin was first published in 1644; Rider's British Merlin was first published in in 1653, and was printed annually into the nineteenth century.
Photos show antique pen and pencil writing on the initial blank pages and blank pages opposite text which are presumably for writing notes anyway. Photo 20 shows a piece of leather peeled away at the bottom of the front cover but page binding and pages inside are in great condition especially as the book is 257 years old.
