Welcome all Memory Collectors!

Throughout the twentieth century post cards have captured the events, exhibitions, disasters and developments of this country. Views of schools, churches, bridges and main streets have all appeared on a postcard, many times the only evidence of their existence in our rapidly changing cities.

A few years ago, reflecting on my past, I decided it might be nice to have a few mementos of my childhood hometown. Postcards were the perfect choice, inexpensive, excellent selection of subjects and time periods and very easy to store, I became enchanted! I enjoyed looking at these cards, remembering the buildings that were long ago torn down, the old theatre where I spent all my after school hours working, my high school I never appreciated until decades later. Each of these relics from the past brought a different and treasured memory.

As my quest for these cards grew so did my collection, first hundreds then thousands. When I joined eBay in 2001 I thought I would be able to "just" dispose of my extra cards, instead I have found many wonderful customers who have kindly shared their memories of what a particular card means to them. For those who have I wish to say, "Thanks for the Memories!"

My goal is to provide you, whether you are a postcard collector or simply one who is collecting a memory the very best service at a reasonable starting bid.

About my Cards and Shipping

I enjoy all types of postcards from the earliest examples of undivided backs to the newer modern versions. I try to include in my store those I think you may enjoy in your personal collection.

Each card is scanned both front and back 150% for your viewing inspection. Genealogists have requested family names so I try to include names and addresses to help those interested in finding their ancestors.

Because I know how special these tiny treasures are to you, I ship each one safely protected in a rigid postcard holder surrounded by card stock or in the case of multiple cards, their own archival safe album.

A bit about me and why I have a funny user name.

I grew up in a typical 1950’s pink ranch style 3-bedroom home in Davenport, Iowa. Faux Stone Veneer trim in the front, awning with a large S indicating our last name initial, huge tailfin car in the garage, pink bathroom fixtures and turquoise furniture. That pretty much explains why I always was fascinated with old American architecture and even as a child found it distressing to see these great old buildings in shambles or worse torn down.

I was blessed to have the best and longest childhood anyone could experience. I grew up in a time and place where children more or less entertained themselves without much parental concerns. This freedom allowed me to travel and explore.

Davenport during the 1950’s was a treasure trove of old interesting buildings all leading down to the Mississippi River. As a child my sister and I would hop a bus and go downtown on our own to discover the sights and sounds which interest a young person.

We would ride the old elevators with the closing decorative gate operated by an elderly gentleman. What fun we thought being able to spend an entire day sitting on a stool and taking people up and down the floors. We enjoyed the beautiful murals on the ceiling before the movies at the RKO and Capitol Theatres, studied at the dignified Carnegie library which was long ago torn down. Some days we would go down to the levee and watch the tows, tugs and riverboats travel up and down the river.

These memories always have stayed with me and have found their way into my home in the form of pictures and art on my walls. Over my computer table was a picture of the Delta Queen painted by Paul Norton. This picture when opening my ebay account inspired my daughter since I could not think of a user id. She thought it fitting to incorporate this picture with my identity since it represented a part of my past. My very first store name "As the River of Time Flows On" was the inscription in my 1967 yearbook and my logo was from a vintage postcard made in the area of a ferry that operated on the Mississippi River near Davenport. Today I have a more descriptive name for my merchandise "The Postcard Emporium" and my logo is an old building which once housed a photography studio in Davenport.

Thank you!
