Some Information About PetesWorld

Giving you a little more insight into the seller.
Books, Magazines, Comics, CDs, Cigarette and Trade Cards, Postcards, Models and Toys - anything old and interesting! Selling collectibles by mail-order catalogues for 15 years
with many satisfied customers.

Welcome...

Most of the items listed here are at a discount to prices found elsewhere, with many being around 50% off the various Price Guide values - that's HALF PRICE!

EVERY item here is individually scanned or photographed, what you see is what you get. These are not stock photos, the item in the picture is the item that you will actually receive.

I accept payment by Google or Paypal checkout or cheques or postal orders from UK customers.

The cheapest and quickest way of all is a direct bank transfer, if you bank online and wish to pay that way just ask me for details.

All books, comics and magazines are shipped in stroning boxes to avoid damage in the post. So many people selling books and other items through the post seem to think a padded 'jiffy bag' type envelope is sufficient. These are quite USELESS for protecting from corner knocks! I've been disappointed many times as a buyer when items that have been carefully preserved for decades get bashed just for the sake of a bit of extra packing, even long established booksellers who should know better do this. My smaller items such as postcards are sent between two sheets of card to avoid getting bent, larger items such as models are boxed with plenty of bubblewrap or scrunched up newspaper all around with special care to keep corners of items away from the corners of the mailing boxes where they will get knocked.

I have started off the store by listing a fairly random selection of items that just happened to be the first ones to hand! If you are interested in seeing specific items listed then please contact me and I will see what I can do!

Please read the "How to Order" information below for details of postage rates and payment options. Also please read the information below on grading if you are not familiar with grading terminology.

I hope that you find something nice that you wish to order!

Pete

HOW TO PAY FOR YOUR ITEMS

I accept payment by Google or Paypal checkout (the advantages of payment facilitators such as these is security - buyers never have to share their credit/debit card details with sellers, all you need is an email address that is registered with Paypal and they will take care of transferring funds betwen the two parties, for more information see www.paypal.com).

I can also take cheques or postal orders from UK customers.

I am not able to take direct credit or debit card payments, however it is possible for you to register a card with Paypal and send payment that way.

The cheapest and quickest way of all is a direct bank transfer, if you bank online in the UK and wish to pay that way just contact me for details.

POSTAGE & PACKING RATES

The postage rate displayed on each items page is for that individual item, not a flat rate. If you are ordering more than item and wish to combine shipping there is usually a saving to be made. Please request a total or await my invoice before sending payment.

CUSTOMERS OUTSIDE THE UK

Please email me if you wish to order and I will advise shipping rates.

REFUNDS & RETURNS

If you are unhappy with the item(s) you receive then you may return them within seven days in the same condition as sent for a full refund. However this should rarely be necessary as you can see for yourself the condition of the items in the store, so in most cases they will be 'sold as seen' except in the unlikely event there is some major flaw that I have not spotted. Please contact me before returning any item.

BOOK, COMIC AND OTHER PRICES & GRADING INFORMATION

ALL of the comics listed here are at a discount to the current Overstreet Price Guide value with most being 50% off, HALF PRICE. The prices are converted to £GBP at a rate of one dollar to about £0.65 and then halved, thus for example a comic listed in Overstreet for $10 would be only £3.25. All comics are supplied bagged and boarded! Comics are supplied in stroning boxes to avoid damage in the post.

Standard industry grading is used as follows.

NM: Near Mint - Almost new condition (I don't use NM+ or Mint grades though a small number of Near Mint comics in the list may actually be better than NM).

VF: Very Fine - Very slight wear noticeable. Maybe a tiny crease or spine stress marks.

FN: Fine - Still flat, clean, no major faults; maybe a couple of small light creases.

VG: Very Good - Heavier creases than Fine; could have neat writing or small tears.

GD: Good - Very worn. Usually heavily creased but still complete. A very inaccurate grading term.

FR: Fair - Worse than good - not really nice at all! Still complete but very tatty.

PR: Poor - A mess! Could be sellotaped, badly torn, scribbled on, pieces missing etc.

Plus and minus signs are used if I think a comic falls between two grades eg. VG+ is a little bit better than VG but not as nice as a FN.

Note: For grades/prices shown here which are not listed in the Overstreet Guide I have used an approximate figure eg. VG+ is the Overstreet VG price plus around one third of the difference between their VG and FN price. I have used their VF/NM price for my VF+ grade, halfway between VF and NM-. For NM comics I have added around 20% to the NM- price.

Grading for books tends to be a little less precise, the commonly used grades are Good, Very Good and Fine, from experience I would say that a booksellers "Fine" probably equates to a comic/magazine seller's "Very Fine".

Items such as postcards and cigarette cards as well as music media such as records and CDs are usually graded Fair > Good > Very Good > Excellent ie. no "Fine" grade.

Generally in most fields of collecting especially printed media the grades Fair, Good and Very Good aren't actually that great at all, despite their name. Things get even more confusing when non-specialist sellers on online auction sites use the description "fair" "good" or "very good" simply in the traditional English usage of the words rather than their more precise collectibles grading terminology. Generally my "Very Good" means the technical grade VG (4.0 see below), not just a vague description of something being in nice condition.

Comic and magazine collectors often now use a numerical ten point scale for grading, which arrived on the scene at around the same time as third party grading and certification which was already in use in the world of coin and card collecting. Here are the old grading definitions with the equivalent numbers:-

Poor 0.5; Fair 1.0; Good 2.0; Very Good 4.0; Fine 6.0; Very Fine 8.0; Near Mint 9.4.

In other words "Good" is 2 out of 10 - NOT good! It worth trying to establish if the person you are buying from is using technical grading terms and interpreting them accurately!

If in doubt have a look at some of the scans on my items to get an idea of the different grades before jumping in!
