Some Information About Maxgol

Giving you a little more insight into the seller.

Hi Folks

I am a collector of movie memorabilia and especially Hammer, Universal, Peter Cushing etc. I have collected for decades now. Since my earliest years of Famous Monsters issue 2 onwards I have loved this genre; FM used to have a wonderful variety of photos of movies showing classic and other monsters, as well as features on the genre greats - Chaney, Karloff, Lugosi, Chaney Jr., Cushing, Lee, Price et al. I was, alas, too young to see the mysterious 'X' certificate movies these greats appeared in but could, in those wonderful days of yore, stand outside a cinema which displayed stunning posters and a set of 8 Front of House cards, all designed to inveigle one into the cinema (if old enough). It often took years to catch up with seeing the older horror movies especially. In Birmingham, in those days, was the wonderful, independent Fururist cinema which often featured these old movies, as well as continental horrors such as Seddok, Son of Satan, Eyes Without a Face etc as well as the old Universal horrors - all on the big screen. Happy days of youth. My wife and I used to attend movie fairs in Manchester, London, NEC, SEC etc.in order to acquire new pieces for my collection. (I was even accorded the title of 'The Horror Man' by some regular traders). However, as I am now getting older I am doing a Forry Ackerman and selling off most of my huge collection, though for different reasons to Forry! I  need more space and so downsizing my very large collection. I will retain some pieces as I am still a collector at heart, but am happy to see great pieces go to true collectors who, like me, really appreciate this area of collecting. Many of the pieces offered are genuinely extremely hard to find now and I was lucky to know the right people at the right time and to have collected for decades when such items were available (but expensive, even then - bank loans were a feature of my earlier life!). Also a number of items are unique one-off pieces and rare.   Once items are gone - they are gone .
Whilst I appreciate that some items are very expensive, they were often very expensive to acquire and I would travel far, pay entrance fees, signature fees etc in order to obtain the item I hoped to add to my collection.

A note on prices: I constantly monitor auction sites and Movie memorabilia dealers and prices will reflect such searches and may be subject to change.

A note on P&P: As a collector who sells to fellow collectors and wants to receive purchases as they were sent out, all packaging materials are new (unlike many cobbled together packages I receive) and over £10 priced items are sent by a tracked system which covers loss or damage so Royal Mail 1st class Signed For is used items up to £50 cover and Royal Mail Special Delivery for higher priced items; overseas packges are shipped via Royal Mail International Tracked (up to £250 cover) and Parcelforce Global Express for more expensive items. Security of quality postal packaging materials and  safe (as can be) postal tracked security are my priorities. As many item P&P prices are years old I am having to update these prices as Royal Mail prices have increased a couple of times (at least) as has packaging materials costs. Any overpayment for P&P will see a partial refund given to a purchaser for any excess over-payment.

I also collect horror literature and especially H. P. Lovecraft, Bram Stoker, M. R. James, Algernon Blackwood, Arkham House titles and the like.
I have, over the years met many of the stars of the movies I have liked including Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Hazel Court, Eunice Gayson,  Michael Ripper, Guy Rolfe, Tom Baker, Roy Ward Baker, Ken Russell, Robert Vaughn, Horst Janson, John Carson, Linda Hayden, Barbara Shelley, Veronica Carlson, Andre Melley, Oscar Quitak, Francis Matthews, George Cole, Anthony Higgins, Elizabeth Shepherd, Niki Arrighi, Ian Ogilvy, Jimmy Sangster, Dickie Owen, Martin Stephens, Eddie Powell, Freddie Francis, Melvyn Hayes, Val Guest, Jenny Hanley, Yvonne Romain, James Bernard, Anthony Hinds and many more - what a privilege to meet the people one admired on the big screen when young.
I have contributed, from my collection, to numerous books and my name can be found, in the Acknowlegements sections in VAMPIRE OVER LONDON (Bela Lugosi in London), CHRISTOPHER LEE, THE AUTHORISED SCREEN HISTORY, THE CULT FILMS OF CHRISTOPHER LEE, BEATING THE DEVIL (Night of the Demon book),  the Hammer Poster Book THE ART OF HAMMER, plus many pieces from my collection are featured in the HAMMER VAULT book, including the special edition supplement folder, as well as THE PETER CUSHING SCRAPBOOK (though I am identified as Richard Golem there!!!!), THE DRACULA SCRAPBOOK (correctly identified there!), THE FRANKENSTEIN SCRAPBOOK, HAMMER GRAND DESIGNS, THE HAMMER VAMPIRE SCRAPBOOK, THE KARNSTEIN SCRAPBOOK as well as the magazine Little Shoppe of Horrors and the Classic Monsters Specials: The Curse of Frankenstein, The Brides of Dracula, Creature From the Black Lagoon, The Werewolf of London, The Mummy, Curse of the Werewolf, The Revenge of Frankenstein, The Plague of the Zombies, The Phantom of the Opera, Universal Monsters Vol 1 &2, Scars of Dracula, Dracula A.D. 1972, Classic Monsters Annual 2021 and 2022, 2024, Hammer Horror: An Illustrated Chronicle (Part 1 & Part 2), Classic Monsters Annual 2023 magazines, as well as some issues of Classic Monsters.
In addition to various books you will find my name on the Hammer Vampires DVD and the steelbox version of The Curse of the Werewolf  DVD and Bluray and on a number of the Hammer Bluray discs: The Curse of Frankenstein, The Mummy's Shroud, The Evil of Frankenstein (both Final Cut and Shout Factory versions), The Brides of Dracula  (with interview here), The Witches, The Mummy, Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell, Captain Clegg, The Phantom of the Opera (with interview here), The Scars of Dracula, Dr. Jekyll & Sister Hyde, Lust For A Vampire, Legend of the Hammer Mummies (identified as Richard Golem here!!) and Amicus: Vault of Horrors documentary DVD and the Peter Cushing documentary Life With Sir as well as the DVD (with great magazine) Peter Cushing: The Man Who Created Frankenstein (a Don Fearney production).
At one time, in my teens I was co-Presidentof the Official Peter Cushing Fan Club and dear Peter has remained an actor and great human being that I retain an interest in.
I hope to help you build up your collection of horror movie  memorabilia and my offerings, I am told by collectors, are the  best in the UK for this hard-to-find original horror movie memorabilia with the fine range of the rarest Hammer pieces offered anywhere - however, I repeat, once the pieces are gone, they are gone. Rare original release Quads for Dracula (1958), The Curse of Frankenstein, Quatermass Xperiment, X- the Unknown, The Abominable Snowman, The Mummy, The Mummy double-bill, Curse of the Werewolf, Quatermass II, Devil Rides Out, The Man Who Could Cheat Death, The Brides of Dracula etc have all sold I have very few 'spares' of pieces which were used for 'swops' with other collectors, but,as I say, I only have a very few of these left. I still have many boxes of memorabilia to put on, but will do this over time as this is not a job for me and retirement offers other distractions. I try hard to deliver the best service possible with speedy posting and secure packaging.  To all my fellow-collectors: Happy hunting.
