Seller's Description

VINTAGE
B/W REAL PHOTOGRAPHIC
POSTCARD - c.1910/15

CAPTIONED/DEPICTING

Shop Front - E. Bond
Licensed to Sell Tobacco

I believe that this interesting real photographic shop front postcard
could be located in Market Weighton

My research tells me that there was a William A. Bond trading in
Market Weighton (High Street) as a Hairdresser/Tobacconist.

In a Kelly's Trade Directory of 1913, W. Bond is listed as a Hairdresser

The same name also appears with the same details in the 1901 census

The tiles on the roof of the building match the architecture of the area

So, looking at the shop front itself, on the left-hand side numerous
cigarette and tobacco advertising-related items are clearly visible.

On the right-hand side is a net-curtain screening the lower half of the
window but nothing can be seen of any significance beyond that.

Is that the Hairdressing side? Is that Mrs. E. Bond standing in the doorway,
perhaps running the shop after her husband, William, had retired or died?
If so, it would date it to around 1914-1920.

That's my offering for this card - over to you for more information, if you can help!
