Description

WWI commemorative circular plastic-coated pressed tinplate metal badge with a celluloid face and a pin attachment on the reverse. Circular  Patriotic Fund badge, featuring a life preserver with a center picture of a boardwalk at Henley Beach , South Australia. Around the edges of the button badge within the life preserver is the inscriptions: "HENLEY BEACH REGATTA 1917 IN AID OF PATRIOTIC FUND".

Various Patriotic Funds were established from the outbreak of the Great War which raised funds to aid Australian soldiers and various relief organizations. Collected funds were distributed to organizations including Cheer-up Huts, repatriation funds, hospitals, trench comforts, and the Red Cross.  The activities themselves were diverse, and included parades, jumble sales, badge selling, among others.
