Text from the free encyclopedia WIKIPEDIA may appear below to give a little background information:
*************
Morte Point is a peninsula on the North West coast of Devon, England, belonging to the National Trust. To the east is the village of Mortehoe and to the south is the seaside resort of Woolacombe.
Morte Point is notorious for being the site of many shipwrecks (one of which, a ship carrying a cargo of live pigs, lends its name to the small cove of Grunta Beach to the south of the point).[citation needed] Because of its dramatic landscape and the often forbidding weather and sea conditions in the area, Morte Point is sometimes referred to by locals as "the place God made last and the devil will take first".[citation needed] Due to its notorious nature Bull Point Lighthouse was built just 2 km north east of the point.[citation needed]
In the summer season, tractor and trailer rides are operated from the Mortehoe Heritage Centre onto the point for visitors to view the seals that live on the northern side.
Woolacombe is a seaside resort on the coast of North Devon, England, which lies at the mouth of a valley (or 'combe'). The beach is 2.5 miles long, sandy and gently sloping. The beach has Blue Flag and Premier Seaside Beach awards for its cleanliness, water quality and facilities. It is a popular destination for surfing, and there are many establishments offering tuition and equipment hire. The waves are gentle when the tide is out and are more vigorous when the tide is in.
