Strings are important! Good serviceable strings are essential for the wellbeing of the instrument – not to mention the morale of the pupil!  Beginners may unknowingly contend with sub-standard strings making life more difficult than it need be when anyone who has advanced on the violin knows there are enough problems at the beginning without adding more!

The old adage, “A bad workman blames his tools” is NOT strictly true with the violin. Bad strings compound difficulties and detract from a sound both the player and instrument in harmony are capable of.

The problem alas is that good strings tend to be expensive in proportion to the overall cost/hire of the instrument. A well know popular brand for school/students may be upwards of £50/£60 per set.

The strings on sale here have been carefully sourced by professional violinists and represent both good quality and value for money. They are in our opinion an excellent upgrade from the frustratingly cheap strings that come as ‘standard’ on many school violins etc.

They are soft yet strong, pliable yet firm, responsive without being ‘soggy’, and provide a graded tonal response. (ie they are not all or nothing in volume!).  Importantly, they are ‘true’ across 5ths (within the set) and there ‘settling in’ period is short.
