Original 1872 6 1/2 inch x 9 7/8 inch coloured print titled BROMUS ERECTUS. UPRIGHT PERENNIAL BROME-GRASS.
Bromus erectus, commonly known as erect brome, upright brome or meadow brome, is a dense, course, tufted perennial grass. It can grow to 47 inches. Like many brome grasses the plant is hairy. The specific epithet erectus is Latin, meaning "erect".
Drawn by John Edward Sowerby (1825 - 1870). A British botanical illustrator and publisher born in Lambeth, London.
