built by John Brown & Company,
Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire.She was yard number 629 and was launched on 12 December 1947, with completion in August 1948. Parthia was Cunard's first postwar ship. It was built for the Liverpool - New York route. Each ship carried 250 first class passengers and had good cargo capacity.
Hollywood stars and celebrities like KATHARINE HEPBURN
preferred to travel from New York to England via Liverpool
on the smaller, deluxe, all-first-class liners
like Cunard’s Parthia and Media.
They could avoid the crowds and have much more privacy.
Hepburn made many such trips.
