Interesting large copper coin of Russian empress Catherine II with coat of arms of the territory in nice condition. Obverse bears the monogram of the empress IE II divided by the date 17 89. The monogram means 'empress Catherine II'. Reverse at the bottom scroll has the face value in words 'five kopecks'. The coin has another impression clearly visible in the field and the crown on Obverse. This is advised not to be confused with the Paul's back-overstrike which was conducted after 1796 with the dies dated by different years before death of Catherine II. The traces of previous image has origin of the double strike, which happened with this Obv. die, it is original, dated 1789 and was minted at Ekaterinburg mint. Due to double strike the size of the coin is larger, than usual. For decades there was a tradition among collectors to cover coins with lacquer for better storage. This coin has such lacquer and it was not removed intentionally just to keep this page of story the coin is telling.
