She possessed a perfect silhouette technique, one of the rarest techniques in the field of illustrating childrens books. Bems creative handwriting and style reflected the era of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. She painted postcards and illustrated childrens magazines, her silhouettes decorated not only postcards and albums, but also glass and porcelain objects.
