Topaz Bicolor Faceted Emerald Rectangle: Sherry & Champagne; 25.54cts; Sri Lanka

Pretty bi-color with shades of sherry red in the center and pale champagne at the ends. Although one sometimes sees similarly colored stones labeled as "Imperial," they are not (Imperial topaz only comes from a single location: Ouro Preto in Brazil and occurs in a different range of colors). This piece is from the ancient mines on the island of Ceylon in the Indian Ocean. This is a large example for topaz in this attractive two-tone color combination. There are two tiny "fleabite" nicks on the bottom facets, noticeable at VERY close range or under magnification. Otherwise, the stone is eye clean. I love the way the facets on this stone serve as prisms, resulting in other colors appearing when oriented in certain directions under the light. This would make an eye-catching gem in a pendant jewel, brooch, etc. Topaz is the traditional birthstone for people born during the month of November.
