Molly Brett grew up in a country district of Surrey, the daughter of Mary Gould Brett, a gifted animal painter. She had little formal training but, after a correspondence course, started illustrating and writing children's books. During her career she also produced many pictures, postcards and greeting cards. In 1974 she was featured in BBC television and radio programmes.
