Seller's Description

The Journal of the British Astronomical Association – 1963 Vol 71 No. 8

  • Size: 24cm tall x 15cm wide x 4.5mm thick
  • Weight: 138g
  • Covers pages: 331-411 from Volume 7 or 88 pages including the cover.
  • Condition: Used: see images for condition. Some minor rusting on the staples – though this is common for journals of this age.
  • Comments: The BAA (British Astronomical Association) has been in existence since 1890 and is an organization in the UK that coordinates and analyses amateur astronomy observations. It is headquartered in Burlington House, on the top floor of the Royal Astronomical association building, near the Royal Academy. I am selling this journal as I found that I had a duplicate. The journal covers what went on at two ordinary general meetings and one annual general meeting. There are reports about the solar eclipse in 1961, solar and Saturn activity in 1960. Papers included are about Aristarchus crater, stress on the Moon, the constellation of Draco, and the shapes of Jupiter, Saturn and their moons as well as their orbits. Good quality plates are present near the centre of the journal with images of the Sun and the Moon. Several monochrome illustrations, sketches and tables are to be found elsewhere in the journal. Some examples of advertisements for astronomical equipment of that era are listed on the members “For Sale” page at the back. There are other advertisements, from commercial vendors, elsewhere. At the back of this journal is an index to all the articles from this and the previous 7 journals in this 1960-1961 volume set.
