Actors: Abbott & costello
Format: Black & White
Number of tapes: 1
Studio: Goodtimes Home Video
Run Time: 60 minutes
Between 1951 and '55, our boys hosted the vaudeville-like Colgate show 21 times. In this "live" broadcast from 12/14/52, Lou relishes turning the tables on Bud, who takes pratfalls and is made to look ridiculous in one skit.
CONTENTS--
Opening number: "Eleven More Days 'Til Christmas" leads to a skit where Bud tries to raise Xmas money by having Lou pick fights with strangers. Instead these men twice push Abbott into a department store window.
ADV: Palmolive claims chlorophyll makes their soap look green!
Buster & Olive dance to "Hello Young Lovers." The very acrobatic Olive was barely 4' tall.
Tom & Jerry perform gymnastics on a tall piece of equipment.
ADV: Colgate Dental Cream, "Meet the Martins"
Skit: Lou gives Bud a scalp treatment, using Sid Fields' radio instructions. When Lou goes for tonic, Sid switches to a recipe for noodle turkey stuffing. Bud dozes while Lou has a ball dumping eggs, veggies and an uncooked turkey on his head. Into the oven at 275° and Abbott comes out bald!
ADV: Fab
Margaret Whiting sings "The Gypsy in My Soul" and "Why Don't You Believe Me?"
Skit: Bud and Lou deliver Xmas gifts to Dorothy Granger and Sid Fields. The couple fight and it's "take the gifts away. bring 'em back, take 'em away" etc. At conclusion of this slapstick bit, Lou says goodbye to 1952, the show's technicians, and others.
ADV: Palmolive Brushless Shaving Cream (animation)
The Nicholas Brothers tap dance in front of Al Goodman's orchestra, then an out-of-breath Lou sings "White Christmas." He riots with several band members, who are actually the Hollywood Stunt Group.
Closing: In-two, includes plug for appearance at Chicago premiere of ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET CAPTAIN KIDD (1952).
TOTAL RUNNING TIME: 59:30
