Seller's Description

CORGI CC61006 1/50 2 PIECE T-34 AND TIGER TANK DIORAMA BATTLE OF KURSK USSR 1943 - IN STOCK

IThe Battle of Kursk, also known as Operation Zitadelle by the German Army was a significant battle on the Eastern Front of World War II from July-August 1943. It remains the largest armored engagement of all time, and included the most costly single day of aerial warfare in history. Though the Germans planned and initiated an offensive strike, the Soviet defense managed to frustrate their ambitions and launch a successful counter-offensive and retook Oryol (August 5), Belgorod (August 5), and Kharkov (August 23), the first such success during summer since 1941. Kursk further demonstrated that the conflict in the East contained the largest scale of warfare in history, in terms of manpower involved.

Henschel Sd.Kfz.181 Tiger
Production of the Tiger began in August 1942, and by August 1944 1,355 of these tanks had been built. The 88mm main gun was the most powerful anti-tank gun in use by any army. The superior mobility of Allied tanks allowed them to attack from behind or from the side in the hope of taking a Tiger down. The influence of Tiger tanks on allied morale grew to almost mythical proportions, and was known as "Tigerphobia." Tigers destroyed tremendous amounts of enemy equipment and often just the sight of a Tiger would induce the Russian tankers to withdraw.
