Seller's Description
Sunderland England Souvenir Tea Spoon Wearmouth Bridge City Crest 4-9/16"
Note: I am not sure that the symbol on the spoon crest is the City Crest on the Wearmouth Bridge. It could well be something else.
I acquired this spoon from an estate sale.
The spoon is topped with what looks to be a close resemblance to the Sunderland city crest on the Wearmouth bridge. The rear of the spoon stem is marked "Bilchrome Sheffield England" and "Reg. GB. 899224".
The spoon measures approx. 4-9/16 inches (11.6 cm) long X 1 inch (2.4 cm) wide (At the widest part of the spoon bowl). The spoon weighs about 15 gr.
The spoon is in good condition. (See pictures).
From the Wikipedia:
City of Sunderland:
The City of Sunderland is a local government district of Tyne and Wear, in North East England, with the status of a city and metropolitan borough. It is named after its largest settlement, Sunderland, but covers a far larger area which includes the towns of Hetton-le-Hole, Houghton-le-Spring, Washington, and a range of suburban villages.
The district was formed in 1974 as the Metropolitan Borough of Sunderland as part of the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972 and is an amalgamation of four former local government districts of County Durham. It was granted city status in 1992, the 40th anniversary of the Queen Elizabeth II's accession. The city had a population of 275,300 at the time of the 2011 census, with the majority of the population (174,286) residing in Sunderland.
Wearmouth Bridge
The Wearmouth Bridge is a through arch bridge across the River Wear in Sunderland. It is the final bridge over the river before its mouth with the North Sea.
The current bridge is the third Wearmouth Bridge in its position. The first opened in 1796, and then was reconstructed in the 19th century.
