Original 1845 9 3/4 inch x 13 1/2 inch steel engraving of THE STINGY TRAVELLER

A group on the steps of a cottage, bidding farewell to a guest by extending their hands in expectation of payment, from which the man, laden with luggage, turns away, a man on the steps above pointing at him accusingly.

Engraved by Joseph Brown (1809 - 1887). Joseph Brown was a line and stipple engraver of original plates and portrait reproductions.

From a painting by Robert William Buss (1804 - 1875). Robert William Buss was a historical, genre and portrait painter, designer and illustrator.

Published by Joseph Hogarth, 6 Haymarket, London.

The engraving is in very good condition with a nick in the left edge. Reverse side blank.
