The Spider’s Stratagem takes on Italy’s fascist past; a breakthrough work that often ranks among Bertolucci’s most enduring achievements. The film leaps back and forth between 1936 and 1970 as a man in his thirties arrives in a small town to look into the death of his father, a leader of the resistance.
