However, the Sioux joined foces with other Native Indian tribes, like the Cheyanne and numbered over 5,000 warriors, when Custer and the 7th Cavalry battled them at the Little Big Horn River. Custer was defeated and all in his command lost their lives. The Sioux were led by Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull. The defeat of the 7th Cavalry shocked the nation and the world.
