Original 1936 Columbia 10 inch x 8 inch Portrait of RUTH CHATTERTON
Ruth Chatterton (1892 – 1961) was an American stage, film, and television actress, aviatrix and novelist. She was at her most popular in the early to mid-1930s, and in the same era gained prominence as an aviator, one of the few female pilots in the United States at the time. In the late 1930s, Chatterton retired from film acting but continued her career on the stage. She had several TV roles beginning in the late 1940s and became a successful novelist in the 1950s.
Portrait by Hollywood Photographer A.L. Whitey Schafer (1903 - 1951) with his stamp on the reverse. An American photographer known for his glamour photography. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Schafer grew up in California and began working in the movies in 1921. He took still photos of movie stars for several studios, including Columbia and Paramount. He was killed by an explosion on a yacht in 1951.
The portrait, on doubleweight paper, is in fine condition.
